Mrinal Doley hails from North Lakhimpur a city in North of Assam. His birth name Manoj was named by a pujari and surname was named by his grandfather as Dontal after their big Dhantal Elephant. Mrinal was born to Mr. Karka Ch. Doley, a famous contractor in olden days of Dhemaji Town, and Mrs. Parbati Doley. However because of changing four to five high schools he is named as Mrinal. Sometimes he is called as Mir--nal in Arunachal and sometimes as Miri—nal and various combinations of the above mentioned. However his forth fathers said to have come to the plains of Assam as the last ones from Arunachal Pradesh like the other Mising people. He belong to the Moyong clan of Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh (India) and so some calls him as Mrinal Moyong.
he Doley family had its roots in Dhakuakhana, North Lakhimpur. His father Mr. K. Doley, belonged to a rich family. And was a contractor by profession Mrinal's mother was a pious lady and very hard working women. When she married to Mr. Doley, it is said that she had to cut the ripped paddy in heavy flood where the water level was up to her neck. And she had to cook rice for 28 people at a time. However she loved her son Mrinal so much that she encouraged him to learn music, singing and dancing even though she was uneducated. Mrinal considers his mother to be his God. Mrinal's younger brother Migang is a lecturer in Kulajan College in Silapather.
(i) Mrinal's other brother Sanjib is a lawyer in North Lakhimpur. And his youngest brother Nameswar is M.A. Passed and leaves with him in North Lakhimpur.
(ii) Mrinal lives with his wife Kunjalata, a renown traditional folk singer and a radio artist in Mising in North Lakhimpur, Assam, India. He is also working on an album of both Mising & Adi of Arunachal State. And also trying to sing in hindi version to all the songs he has sung a in Mising.
Entering the Music Scene:-
Mrinal started to learn Guitur from various gurus, since he didn't get appropriate gurus in his region at that time, he could not complete. He attended North Lakhimpur College North Lakhimpur from then. He just began to sing for Video Films in Mising language and so he could not complete his baccalaureate studies also. He first sung in Jubobani in Itanagar air in Arunachal Pradesh in 1995. Then he recorded his first song in Video Film "Kayum" in 1996. Mrinals life had a turning point when he sung for the film "Toyal Duye" a Mising Video Film in 1997. All the Mising people liked his New taste of Western mixed tune. And so he his known to be the first one who have both the Western touch in Mising Modern Songs. His song "Kangkana" bought a great revolution in Mising Modern Songs in 2003.
